Web 2.0 … The Machine is Us/ing Us

This is a sweet video about the future of information and how the internet is defining the distribution and formatting of it. Data is meaningless unless we define it.

I really like this quote from the video:

When we post and tag pictures, we are teaching the Machine. Each time we forge a link, we teach it an idea.

Car Accident

Water Plume from broken fire hydrant

A couple of weeks ago there was a car accident near our house. I was inside and heard sirens coming up the main road and then stop. Shortly after I hear a helicopter circling overhead. I go outside and see the helicopter just hovering. I figured there was a car chase, and the cops were looking for someone. When Nicole came outside to see what's going on, we both started to feel water hitting our faces like there was mist in the air. Our reaction was what in the world is going on. At this point some other people are walking down the street towards the corner. Nicole and I decide to head to the corner and that's when we see it. There's a huge plume of water shooting up into the air. A man driving down the main road had a heart attack and crashed taking out a bunch of bushes and a fire hydrant. We found out a couple of days later that the man unfortunately didn't live.

Along For The Ride

I can’t believe this story. A kid in a wheelchair somehow got his chair lodged into the grill of a semi-truck. The driver of the truck didn’t know the kid was there and preceded down the highway reaching 50-MPH. The truck driver didn’t know what was going on till the police told him, and the driver saw the kid himself. Good thing for the seatbelt on the chair.

How weird and freaky is that story? If I was that kid I know I’d be freaking out, but he remained calm apparently. The worst that happened is he dropped his soda. That probably happened because he suddenly grabbed the chair’s arms with a death grip praying the seatbelt would hold. Oh, by the way, did you know that you can be arrested for making faces at a police dog? What is this world coming too? How is making a face at a dog considered animal cruelty? Does it hurt the dog’s feelings when you stick your tongue out at the dog?

Update: Here is a much more detailed account of the stuck wheelchair from a local station, http://www.woodtv.com/Global/story.asp?S=6623359
