Yesterday was Macworld 2008 and Apple introduced some cool new products like Time Capsule, which is a wireless router with a built-in hard drive. That’s not bad. The big announcement of the convention was the new MacBook Air, Apple’s new thin notebook (see new ad). The MacBook Air is extremely thin and light, weighing in at just 3.0 pounds and 0.76 inches thick. I really liked how the size of the notebook was demonstrated by Steve Jobs bringing it onto the stage in a regular manilla envelope.
To me though, the biggest announcement was the firmware update for the iPhone. The update includes some really nice new features like multiple SMS recipients, customizable home screen, and Google’s LocateMe. What made me really happy though is some how the annoying white dot grid that has been on the my phone from day one has been fixed. This whole time I thought it was a hardware issue and everytime I tried to get Apple to fix it they just told me there is no problem. Everyone could clearly see the grid except for Apple employees. After upgrading my iPhone yesterday, I noticed my screen looked a lot crisper. Upon a closer look at the screen I noticed that the white dots were gone. I guess the white dot problem was a software issue. All I care about is that they are gone.
So Apple had some big announcements yesterday like the industry’s thinest and lightest notebook and the news that 4 million iPhones had been sold since launch. For me, the biggest news was that the white dots on my iPhone are gone.
